5 Plumbing Problems You Should Never Ignore

|

Kitchen sink plumbing with tools and hoses beneath it. There's a red toolbox on the floor in front of it.

The plumbing in your Wolfforth, Texas, home serves an important purpose: to move water into your home and waste out of the house. Most people take indoor plumbing for granted and may not even spend much time thinking about it, at least until something goes wrong. A plumbing issue should nearly always be treated like an emergency because ignoring most plumbing problems could result in serious damage.

Leaky Faucet

Listening to the dripping sounds from a leaky faucet is enough to drive anyone crazy. However, this problem is more than just bothersome. A leaking faucet can waste hundreds of gallons of water over a year, which is expensive and not friendly to the environment. You could also end up with serious water damage if the leak gets worse. This usually indicates a tap that isn’t properly installed, so tightening the gaskets or other parts around it may solve the problem. However, faucet repair can be complicated, so it should be handled by a skilled plumber.

You might be tempted to swap out the faucet for a new fixture that looks better and won’t leak. Upgrading fixtures can improve functionality and aesthetics in your bathroom, but improper installation can lead to many other problems. Instead of tackling it yourself, contact a plumber to perform the installation quickly and correctly.

Water Spots

Water spots or stains anywhere in your home are cause for concern. If you notice wet spots on your floors or walls, contact a plumber as soon as possible. This usually indicates a leak in the walls or between the floors, which can cause a lot of damage in a short period of time. A plumber will take a closer look at the stain to determine where the water is coming from, which can help them determine the next steps.

If the water is coming from a broken pipe, replacing that section will usually fix the issue. A damaged fixture can also be to blame, which is a fairly easy fix. No matter what is causing the problem, a plumber should fix it quickly to limit the amount of damage to your drywall, floors, and personal possessions, as well as reduce the risk of damage behind the walls.

Clogs that Won’t Clear

A clogged toilet or drain isn’t necessarily an emergency, but it can quickly become one if you can’t get it to clear. Leaving a clogged toilet can cause wastewater to back up into the bathroom, which is unpleasant and unsanitary. A clogged drain can also back up, leading to water damage in your kitchen or other rooms of the home.

Try using a plunger to clear the clog on your own, but use caution when the sink or toilet is already starting to overflow. The pressure from the plunging could cause the water to spill over onto the floor, which can cause damage. Chemical drain cleaning products can cause corrosion and other damage to your pipes, so it’s best to call a plumber before you start dumping anything down a clogged drain.

No Hot Water

When you turn on the hot water tap but only cold water comes out, you may have a problem with your water heater. It could be an issue with a connection or valve, but the water heater is often to blame. A damaged water heater can lead to bigger problems, including leaks and sudden loss of pressure, so it’s best to get it repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Other warning signs of water heater issues include weak pressure when you turn on your taps, no water coming through the faucets at all, and water that smells bad or is a strange color.

Water Valve Issues

Your home contains a main water valve that can shut off all water to the house. If something is wrong with the valve, you could end up with a serious problem, especially if you have a leaky faucet or toilet. A plumber can repair the valve if it won’t shut off or it’s stuck in one position.

These plumbing issues are all concerning, so make sure to contact us at Sinclair Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Inc. at 844-749-2665 if you experience any of them.
